From Soldier to Doctor

A Journey Through Life of Hardship and Hard Work

About the BOOK

The book is a result of an inspiration from the struggles that I had to endure and where I am currently. When I look back to where I come from, I sometimes wonder how I got this far. The road to where I am was very difficult to navigate with all the challenges that I had to face. I wrote this book because I felt very proud of myself for not giving up and also to try and encourage those that think that whatever they want to achieve is not doable. I hope my journey, experience and resilience can give them hope to soldier on and not give up. The book contains the whole journey of my career achievement and it also touches a little on the career journey. I am not sure if I will write a full version book about my career, I am still pondering on that. If anyone out there reading this book, thinks that I should pen down this part of my life, send a signal (laughing). I hope you enjoy the read and it touches you in a positive way.

About the Author

Dr Sibanda is the 2nd of four children and they grew up in the dusty streets of Soweto. He is a paramedic by profession, who wanted to study architecture because he had a passion for drawing which he learned from his father and shared with his younger brother. He grew up with the hope of becoming an architect but things did not turn out the way he wished. He undertook his journey in the paramedic field because he did not want to spend yet another year at home doing nothing. His passion for writing dates back to the years when he just finished high school. He wrote a play for the youth group in church and directed. It was performed in one of the church concerts and everyone loved it as it sent a very positive message about HIV and Aids. Looking back to those years and fast forward to writing this book, he realized that he had the skill but just didn’t harness it. He is passionate about helping other and he always does that from the bottom of his heart. To attest to this, he was once asked this question by someone very close to him: “I see you are looking after people and helping them but who takes care of you”? If this question does not sum up the person he is, then I don’t know what will.
